The Wellbeing Martial Art for Life.
There’s nothing wrong with competition and sport but when it comes to learning and child development we believe their are much more effective options especially in the study of a martial art. Choi Kwang Do really is a martial art for life and we can prove it!
After all if an exercise programme is good for you, surely it would be good for you at pretty much any stage of life. If not, why not? If adults over 40 find it to harsh, why? If people are rarely still able to practise over age 50, why?
There’s a good reason we call Choi Kwang Do the martial art for life. It’s the only wellbeing martial art we know of that can genuinely and consistently benefit 3 generations of students. We have a good number of grandparents training in our Choi for Life adult classes, some have been training for a few years others just a few months.
What do grandparents have to do with your child? Well if a grandparent can take up Choi Kwang Do in their 50′s, 60′s, 70′s or even 80′s see improvement in thier health, balance, flexibility, co-ordination and overall wellbeing don’t you think it suggests with a fair amount of certainty that it is also safe and beneficial for a much younger human being.
When we are young our bodies can adapt and put up with a lot, even things that are not good for us or kind to our central nervous system. Unfortunately many martial artists only find out after 10 – 20 years of training that what they were doing wasn’t so great for their body.
However Choi Kwang Do is different because our number one agenda is the overall health and wellbeing of each student. Their is no compormise made for competition because competition plays no part in Choi Kwang Do what so ever. Choi really can be a gift that not only lasts a lifetime but a gift your child can enjoy for a lifetime.
Does the lack of competition in Choi Kwang Do mean children are not able to compete effectively in other sports? Do they become soft in some way? Not at all, the absence of competition allows us to better assist their physical development, confidence, agility, flexibility, self control etc.
They can still fully participate in sports and are better equiped to do so, a number of children compete at county level in school sports as well as represent Brighton & Hove at football and rugby and one of those is a girl. Non competitive child development has been proven to be more effective and lot of research on the subject is covered in the excellent book Smart Moves by Carla Hannaford, highly recommended reading for all parents and teachers.
